You definitely don’t need to buy all new items for a fall capsule; in fact, it’s quite the opposite! The idea is to start with what you already have and love and then work in a few new, fresh pieces each season depending on budget and need. If you’d like to read about my quick + easy capsule wardrobe process, click [HERE]!
**For reference, I’m 5’8″ and usually wear a S/M in tops and a 4/6 in pants.
Outfit 1:
Starting with some light fall layers that could work on their own or paired with different tops and tees! Love little layers peeking out to add interest and variety, and these classic colors will last beyond just this season.

Outfit 2:
Next, same jeans and shoes, but switched up the sweater and layering tee! See how all four of these tops could be mixed, matched and paired with different bottoms to create many outfits from just a few pieces? That’s the capsule concept!

Outfit 3:
Building on the concept of using similar pieces to create many looks, I’ve take the previous outfit and made it comfy cozy but just changing the bottom half! Swapped jeans for leggings and flats for sneaks. Easy peasy. Total mommin’ vibes!

Outfit 4:
Same leggings, back in the rust flats, but we’ve added some comfy style up top with classic buffalo check tunic and a denim jacket. I feel like all of these pieces keep coming back year to year, which means they fall into the category of a classic…which is perfect for the capsule wardrobe concept! Would totally wear this out and about with the kids or even for family pics or holiday!
Denim jacket (loose boyfriend fit) – M
Plaid tunic (covers my bum and I’m kinda tall!) – S

Outfit 5:
Same leggings, back in the sneaks and just switching things up with another classic sweater option – this one is long enough to work as a tunic with the leggings, or it also works front tucked with jeans and the flats! Love this fun little game of mixing and matching.

Outfit 6:
Same top half, different bottom half! Here’s a way to wear some of these looks with black denim swapped in for leggings/blue denim, and I think it could work with the rust flats OR those cutie black booties there, too!
Sweater – M
Jeans – my size 4
Booties – fits TTS

Layering with the same white tee and black jeans from earlier, and I have a tip for buying black denim: if you look for a pair that is sort of washed out or “vintaged” black and not solid black, it won’t show fuzzies or pet hair nearly as much! These are a great dupe for my Madewell pair, too.
Sweater – M
Tee – S
Denim – my size from Old Navy 4
Shoes – TTS

Final outfit combo brings us back to the sweater, boots and scarf from earlier, but I swapped in a corduroy skirt for a different look! (This would be cute with tall boots, too.) This is how much I love y’all…no tan and in desperate need of a shave. Don’t zoom in….
Sweater – M
Skirt – went up a size to 6 for length
Booties – TTS
