GKIDS Readiness Checklist

Georgia Kindergarten Teachers, I have something just for you. I want to share with you some support and assistance that only another Kindergarten teacher in the trenches could do. I created Individual Student GKIDS Readiness Checklists. GKIDS stands for Georgia Kindergarten Inventory of Developing Skills.

What is GKIDS Readiness Check?

Every fall, Kindergarten students in the State of Georgia get assessed for what is called a GKIDS Readiness Check in three areas; ELA, Math, and foundational skills. We usually have a deadline to get these assessments in. All the data teachers collect gets entered into a state reporting system.

Provided Resources

First, the GKIDS Website provides teachers with information for school staff, including teachers, with training modules. As a new teacher, these required materials are not only needed but helpful. Please do not skill this step. Also, returning teachers also must complete yearly trainings. Here is a link to some of these resources. The resources provided are great and aid teachers in data collection.

Individual Checklists

Then, one resource I felt I needed to be more efficient and productive was individual checklists per student, especially in the beginning of the school year. Since the GKIDS assessment is pretty in depth for the start of the school year, I often THOUGHT I got every single area completed for every single student, only to go to the computer to start the process to discover someone was absent and something was missing! Therefore, this checklist can really come in handy.

GKIDS readiness check example

This is where the individual GKIDS Readiness Checklist comes in. Because many of the assessments should be done one on one, this sheet is a great way to collect information. Additionally, a large chunk of the foundational skills need to be observed, which you can also do with this sheet. You need to use this sheet in collaboration with the GKIDS materials.

GKIDS Credit

To use, each student will need ONE copy of this. The GKIDS Checklist matches all the GKIDS state material since that is the resources I pulled from including the performance levels. Even the letter order matches. First, I want to give full credit to GKIDS for their resources and want to state that I made this to help K teachers complete their readiness checks with ease. Then, I did not come up with any of this information. I simply made a checklist I find easier to use.

Parent Resources

Lastly, GKIDS provides parent resources that Georgia Kindergarten teachers should send home to their student supporters. You can find this information here.
