Murrieta kindergarteners learning to ride bikes at school

The kindergarteners at E. Hale Curran Elementary School in Murrieta are taking their brand new bikes out for a spin.

Donated by the Ryan Dungey Foundation, they’re part of the national All Kids Bike program from the Strider Education Foundation, which strives to teach kindergarteners how to ride a bike and inspire active lifestyles from an early age.

Motocross and supercross star Ryan Dungey chose Curran out of five schools across the nation to receive new bikes, helmets and daily riding lessons during PE class, a news release states. Dungey lived in the Murrieta-Temecula area for training.

“From the beginning, it was important to me to go back to communities that have been important parts of my life and racing career,” Dungey said in the release.

In late April, the Murrieta elementary school received a fleet of 24 Strider Balance bikes for kids, which can convert to pedal bikes.

Launched in March 2018, the All Kids Bike’s kindergarten program is in 479 U.S. schools.

Curran Principal Greg Lumsden said the initiative “underscores the impact active play can have on a student’s overall physical and mental health.”
