Pop It CVC Words

Did you know there are scientists who focus 100% on how children learn to read? Yep – it’s true! They’ve discovered that it’s much more helpful for children to learn letter SOUNDS before letter NAMES. So that means we need to practice it as much as possible! These Pop It CVC Words are the perfect way to do just that.

Getting Ready

Prep for Pop It CVC Words is quick and easy.

First, print the task cards and laminate them for extra durability. Then, cut along the lines to separate the pieces.

If you’ll be using the record sheets, print one for each student.

Grab enough Pop Its for every student to have one. That’s it – you’re done!

Pop It CVC Words

Students will pick up one task card at a time, say the word out loud and then stretch out the word s-l-o-w-l-y so they can pop each sound they hear on their Pop It.

For instance, if the student grabbed the cat card, she would say: “Cat. /C/ (pop). /A/ (pop). /T/ (pop).”

Then, she would write the sounds she heard on her sheet and slide her finger along the bottom arrow to blend them together and read the entire word.

Play continues until all of the words have been popped.
