School Focus: The Invictus Approach

The international school landscape in HK was given a new look in 2019 when Invictus School Hong Kong opened its doors to students. It offered parents a new through-train schooling option, welcoming children from K1 (three years) to high school graduation, at a more affordable price point. We find out more about the school, which offers a quality accessible international education for families.

About Invictus School Hong Kong

Invictus is an international community that welcomes both local and expatriate families. If you’re interested in a bilingual kindergarten or primary school experience, the campus at Tseung Kwan O is one to add to your list. It offers the IEYC and IPC, with a mathematics curriculum supplemented by the Singapore Mathematics Curriculum Framework.

Once Invictus students are ready to graduate to high school, they head over to the Chai Wan campus for an English-medium secondary school experience that offers the Cambridge Lower Secondary, IGCSE and A-level curricula.

A word from the Principal

CHRISTOPHER JACKSON is the Invictus School Principal, Primary and Secondary; we asked him to outline a few key features of the Invictus approach.

How are new families welcomed to the school?

Each new family that enrols is provided with a welcome pack that includes special handbooks for parents and students, information about uniforms, buses, school policies and more. Each family is also introduced to a contact in the relevant Friends of Invictus parent group, so they can start to connect with other families.

What makes Invictus an inclusive school?

We welcome students from all walks of life. We don’t have set benchmarks for new students to meet. Students need enough English language to access our curriculum and community, but other than that we try to assess everyone through a face-to-face or Zoom interview. This personal introduction helps our faculty identify each student’s individual strengths and weaknesses. From this understanding, we can have an honest and supportive discussion about how Invictus can cater to their needs.

What support do you offer non-Chinese speaking families tackling language learning?

These parents are helped in multiple ways. Firstly, the school splits Chinese learning programmes into first and additional streams, tapering the curriculum support and advice as required.

Non-Chinese speaking families are never alone. They’re joined by like-minded families who have made the conscious decision to pursue our schooling option. These families support each other through different Invictus parent WhatsApp groups and Friends of Invictus support groups.

Secondary School Scholarships

Got a budding scientist or pianist in your home? Invictus Secondary School offers scholarships to exceptional students, open to all talented local Hong Kong and expat students. The scholarships are awarded on academic performance or exceptional talent in creative arts. Two types of scholarships are available:

  • Academic scholarships – based on performance in the entrance assessment
  • Music scholarships – assessed by the Principal and Senior Music Teacher Application packs are available on the admissions section of the school’s website.
