The Sterling Public Library is offering an opportunity to learn more about Growing Readers Together, a program promoting early childhood literacy.
The library will hold an open house from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Propst Park as a part of the Growing Readers Together grant. During this time any family members, friends or neighbors who care for someone’s children under the age of 6 are invited to come and visit booths that show you how to promote early literacy with young children. You will be given tips and goodies that will help you with each of the five early literacy skills.
Sterling Public Library has been a part of the statewide Growing Readers Together project for the past two years. One of the primary goals of Growing Readers Together was to help informal childcare providers connect with others, gain resources, and learn the latest in early literacy tips and tricks to grow the children in their care into kindergarten-ready readers. Another part of the grant provided great resources at the library to be used by everyone caring for young children. We hope to showcase these great learning tools in the near future.
Parents, please encourage your children’s care providers to attend. Since the Growing Readers Together grant targets those who are caring for your children when you are unavailable, the library hopes to provide future workshops for parents of young children. The 5 early literacy skills are so important to helping your children be ready for kindergarten.
