THE GINGERBREAD GIRL
When reading various versions of the Gingerbread Man to my Kindergarten class, I remember how excited they were to find out that there was one about a Gingerbread Girl!
They loved how she was a sister to the Gingerbread Man. And how she begins the story acting as her brother once did...
as she pops out of the oven and runs away! The class book, shown above, has students using their imaginations and writing about where the Gingerbread Girl should run to.
Of course, the Gingerbread Girl gets chased by those who want to eat her, just like her brother. And she meets the sly fox, too!
Will the Gingerbread Girl end up as the fox's lunch, like her brother the Gingerbread Man?
Nope! My students loved how the Gingerbread Girl outfoxed the fox! She also trained him to have better manners :) What a fun twist on the story of the Gingerbread Man!
This book activities unit has a wide variety of Common Core aligned literacy companion activities to go with the book The Gingerbread Girl by Lisa Campbell Ernst. It includes a class book where students can write about where the Gingerbread Girl might run after she pops out of the oven. It also includes a craftivity that makes a cute bulletin board display, to showcase student learning.
