You do not know love, but love knows you. It is only in love knowing you that you can know love.
I do not mean being loved by another. There is no such thing. Only that the door of love has opened within yourself.
When love finds you, you know.
It is an alternate reality to the mode of daily life. It is a highly refined, spiritual state that mystics tell us in passionate detail.
What is love?
Love is the fresh cool breeze. The clean window. The light at dusk. It is the present moment without expectation. Positive anticipation of life’s unfolding glory. The mystery of the unknown. The trust in the darkest night.
Love is the emptiness of the mind, and the fullness of the heart.
Why do people fall out of love?
It is because they fall from Grace. Love is a suspended state of perfection. In order to remain in love, we must purify ourselves again and again on the sacred fire of life.
If you want to know love, ask. The only reason for your life at all is for this. Consider this entire world a kindergarten for your soul to learn how to return to love again and again in all sort of challenging situations.
A life lived in complete peace would have no need for growth. You may see some people around you struggle, and struggle more. While others struggle and rise like phoenixes above their own ashes. Worst of these is those who don’t struggle and don’t know love.
Which are you?
Love is learned through trial.
Your heart is selfish. You have a lot to do to attain perfection. You want for yourself, for comfort, for success, for status, for achievement. Only through failures, disappointments and grievances does your heart begin to purify its desires. We knock our heads on the cement wall time and time again.
What we do not realize is that…
Its not the doing, it’s how its done.
It’s not the goal, it is the grasping.
It’s not the other, it’s our self.
It’s not our blind effort, it’s perseverance tethered to God’s will.
How to love?
In order to know love, you must be a warrior for love.
You must fight, but this fight is a private and internal one. You must fight with your lower self. You must throw all self protection, all attachments, all sense of security into the fire.
For how long? Eternity. This is a constant process of renewal. Only in the freshness of your nakedness and transparency can you remain in the firm grasp of love.
Let everything go. See what remains.
Do this again and again, until your soul has an impenetrable trust in God’s love for you.
This is the path of the heart. Are you courageous enough to venture this journey? If so, you will find the greatest treasure in human existence. True Love.
