14 Of Perth’s Best Waffles To Drool Over This Weekend

If you haven’t seen Parks and Recreation, immediately go add it to your list of things to watch on Netflix/Stan/whatever you use to watch TV shows.

If you have watched it you will know that a) it’s hilarious, and b) the lead character Leslie Knope provides the most profound and stirring advice you will ever hear: “We need to remember what’s important in life. Waffles, friends and work.”

Damn straight, Leslie. Friends are important, hard work is important—but waffles are obviously the most imperative part of our lives. So as a tribute to Leslie Knope, here are the best places in Perth to get waffles.

Superstar Waffles

Northbridge

Obviously if a place is called Superstar Waffles, they’re going to have damn good waffles. The selection is almost overwhelming—you can get good old fashioned classic waffles served with maple syrup and fresh cream; or you could live large and get the banoffee waffle, which is topped with fresh slices of banana, warm toffee, biscuit crumble, a shot of maple syrup and fresh cream. Whatever you choose, wear your stretchy pants.

Drasko’s Hot Chicken

Mount Hawthorn

You might be thinking, what on earth is a fried chicken restaurant doing on our best waffles list, but c’mon is there really much better than fried chicken and waffles? This popular spot serves up epic waffles every Saturday and Sunday topped with their juicy fried chicken tenders, whipped butter and quality Canadian maple syrup. We’re drooling just thinking about it.

Crunchbox

Malaga

If you’re looking for Perth’s yummiest plant-based and gluten-free waffles, look no further than Crunchbox. Offering up choc or plain waffles, grab one hot and fresh out the iron with maple syrup on top. For something a little extra, why not try the PBJ—topped with peanut butter bars, ice cream and strawberries (all vegan!).

Thuggs

Leederville

You really thought we would make this list and not include fried chicken ‘n’ waffles? If you’re VERY hungry, Thuggs is the place for you. Head down and grab The King: fried chicken and bacon sandwiched between fresh, hot waffles. Top it with maple syrup and you’ve got yourself a big ol’ treat.

May Street Larder

East Fremantle

If one morning you wake up and decide that you deserve a treat yo’self day, go to May Street Larder for breakfast and order the ‘Soul Sandwich’. A polenta waffle, topped with buttermilk fried chicken, avocado, smoked sour cream, chilli maple syrup and jalapenos.

Sayers Sister

Northbridge

Sayers Sister has created a beautifully fresh and appetizing dish of lemon honey waffles. The icing on the cake (or should we say the topping on the waffle?): lemon curd, white chocolate crumble, and cinnamon. We couldn’t ask for more.

Mr Fox On William

Perth

Sister cafe to The Sparrow’s Nest in East Vic Park, Mr Fox on William offers up some crispy, delightful waffles with—you guessed it—fried chicken. Coming with a side of maple syrup to satisfy those who just can’t pick between sweet and savoury, this won’t disappoint.

Pitcher And Iron

Subiaco

What sets Pitcher and Iron apart from the others is that it offers up two types of waffles: Brussels, a light and airy waffle; and Liege, which is dense and buttery. Take your pick (both are amazing) and top it with goodness like premium Belgian chocolate, or go a little further with one of their specials. Try out the Japanese-inspired charcoal waffle with matcha ice cream, adzuki red bean paste, matcha white choc sauce and sesame brittle.

Muffle & Co

Fremantle Markets

What do you get when you cross a muffin and a waffle? A muffle, that’s what. At Muffle & Co, you can choose a savoury muffle, with mouthwatering fillings like bacon and cheese or smoked salmon. If you like something a little sweet (and a little extravagant), opt for the mango sticky rice muffle, made with mango, sticky rice and coconut. They’ve also got ferrero, banoffee pie, milo and cheesecake flavours. Yum.

Gelare

Various locations

Ah, Gelare, it always takes us back to the good old days when we’d run to the shops after school to get our waffles half price. And guess what: they still do half price Tuesdays. Yep, so go right ahead and get your classic Gelare waffle fix, with a few extra scoops of ice cream thrown on for good measure.

Cup & Co

Innaloo

This pup-friendly spot dishes up good vibes alongside some delightfully unique brekkie options—including some lip-smacking waffles. Cup & Co's crisp Belgian waffles come topped with delicious and fresh assorted berries.

Waffley Good

Cannington

Stop for a waffle break at Waffley Good while you shop at Westfield Carousel. Their menu has loads of tasty waffle options—we’re talking waffles on a stick for waffle lovers on the go, or waffle eclairs and splits where you can choose your stuffing. What are you waiting for?

La Veen Coffee & Kitchen

Perth

Right in the heart of the city lies two different La Veen locations and their sensational brekkie menus, which include waffles on mocha soil. How convenient, you can get delicious waffles before work. They top theirs with mixed berries, banana, coconut and white chocolate crumble, chantilly cream, and fruit puree.

Cafe 2TwentyFour

Belmont

This gem of a cafe in Belmont dishes up the most impressive-looking waffles in town. Home-made waffles drizzled in Nutella and sprinkled with crushed hazelnuts, then garnished with fresh strawberries and vanilla ice-cream. Cafe 2TwentyFour, we love you.
