Choose Wisely With Filson’s Indiana Jones-Themed Luggage & Apparel

Ever since Raiders of the Lost Ark hit theaters in 1981, the Nazi-punching archaeologist Indiana Jones has remained one of the most iconic characters in popular culture.

Harrison Ford now returns to the character in the franchise’s fifth film: Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny. For those of us who grew up with these films, there’s nothing quite like seeing Ford in the worn fedora and rugged leather clothing that have become perennial favorites around Halloween.

In fact, thanks to a new product line from Filson, you can now embrace your inner tomb raider all year long. (Though it will cost you.)

The Seattle-based manufacturer of outdoor apparel is offering shirts, pants, bags, and — of course — a bush hat, all made with high-quality materials and aimed squarely at our collective nostalgia. It’s a product launch designed to make you feel that you have, indeed, “chosen wisely.”

Here’s how to get the Indiana Jones signature look, courtesy of the 125-year-old Filson brand.

Filson Rugged Twill Bags

While there’s a good diversity of apparel available in the new lineup, Filson’s Rugged Twill Bags might be the standouts.

As seen in the featured image at the top of this story, the six bag options include a medium duffel bag, a zippered tote bag, a briefcase, a field bag, a travel kit, and even an Outfitter card wallet (where Indy would no doubt store his credit cards, if he’d had them). All the bags are made with twill (which refers to a durable, diagonal weave) and bridle leather.

Whether you’re looking for a bag for your next outdoor adventure or just want some sweet new luggage, there’s likely an option here for you. The Medium Rugged Twill Duffle Bag, seen above, costs $595 and comes in Tan, Navy, or Otter Green.

Rugged Twill Rucksack and Cruiser Jacket

There’s no denying the sex appeal of the Large Rugged Twill Rucksack and the Tin Cloth Short Lined Cruiser Jacket.

The first option is built with the same rugged materials above, but also offers … pockets! It’s got two exterior snap-flap pockets and a full-width rear stow pocket. With brass hardware for the main compartment zipper and the external buckles, this isn’t a bag to leave behind in the underground crypt.

As for the jacket, it’s made from tin cloth, which refers to a kind of waxed canvas fabric. It’s also got a water-resistant oil finish, as well as a dry-finish cover cloth. Polyester twill lines the sleeves, and there’s a metal shank button for the front cuffs. And, of course, Filson couldn’t leave out the flapped chest pockets: good for quickly hiding an ancient artifact from any thieving Nazis you might encounter.

The jacket, available in Dark Tan or Black, will set you back $350. The Rucksack comes in Otter Green for $595 or Maple Bark Camo for $750.

Tin Cloth Bush Hat & More

Not quite a fedora, but not uncool, either; (photo/Filson)

So, Indiana Jones had a fedora. And this is a bush hat. But if you’re looking for a durable hat at least reminiscent of our famous hero, you could do a lot worse than Filson’s Tin Cloth Bush Hat.

The Tin Cloth Bush has a 3-inch-wide full brim and a water-resistant oil finish. It also has a cotton sweatband, leather hatband, and ventilating grommets in the crown. Its leather chin strap is for security in gusty winds (or potential supernatural dangers). It comes in Dark Tan or Otter Green and costs $85.

That’s not the end of Filson’s Indy-themed offerings, either. There’s also the Anchorage Work Pants and Feather Cloth Shirt, all made from good materials and with a high-end price to match.

And if you’re thinking of buying a cheaper alternative at Halloween stores — think again. Both the adult and child versions of the costume are currently sold out.

Go One Step Further: Expedition Apparel and Adventure

Don’t want just the Indiana Jones look? Well, you’re in luck. Aligning with its Indy-inspired apparel, Filson is also offering a Jones-movie-themed giveaway adventure to go with it. Channel Indiana Jones on an all-expenses-paid, fully outfitted 12-day trip for two to Morocco, thanks to Filson and National Geographic Expeditions.

Unlike Jones, you won’t have a very rough go of it. The trip includes guides (to aid your trek through the ruins and desert dunes), accommodations, and even luggage porting — so you don’t have to schlep around that rugged Filson duffel all by yourself.
