1. Madewell
Known best for its trendy and affordable jeans and dresses, Madewell is also an A+ option for stylish and affordable swimwear. Madewell’s bathing suits are all about classic silhouettes in fun patterns and bikini tops and bottoms that can be mixed and matched. It doesn’t hurt that their suits are also made with recycled materials as well as having lots of options for different levels of coverage.
Our Picks:
Not only is this one piece adorable, it’s reversible. So when you get sick of the floral pattern on side A, just flip it to side B. Not to mention, this would look great with a pair of denim shorts.
We’re suckers for ribbed suits and Madewell does them well. Plus, you can go with a matching top and bottom, or do that whole mix and match thing which Madewell does so well. Adorable either way.
This suit’s retro look is hard not to love. Plus it’s on sale! Win. Win.
2. Solid & Striped
Solid & Striped is a celeb favorite and with good reason. You can spot their signature striped bathing suits from a mile away (but they also release new patterns and colorways every year), making them incredibly social media feed-worthy (if you care about such things!). And they’re well-made—while they’re on the pricier side, a suit from Solid & Striped can easily stick around for a few summers without much visible wear and tear. Word from the wise: size up. Solid & Striped has a reputation for running small.
Our Picks:
As their name suggests, the brand deals mostly in solids and stripes—but the way those solids and stripes are executed can be a whole lot of unexpected fun.
This is their best-seller suit and it’s easy to see why. Gorgeous colors, a low scooped back, the Anne Marie is a classic.
All that said, solids and stripes are not all they do—and when they venture into patterns they often hit it out of the park. The bikinis are sold as separates so you can create your ideal beach look.
3. Left on Friday
Founded by two former Lululemon execs and designed not just for lounging but for activities too, Left on Friday is the perfect melding of flattery and function. The whole point of these suits is to look good while you’re doing all the things you do in your life—without having to worry about your swimsuit falling off.
Our Picks:
We love the Party Waves pattern in all the many colors it comes in. Add on to that a high waist that keeps us feeling snug in all the right places and *chef’s kiss*.
A high-cut leg and a low-cut front give this one piece just the right amount of sexy.
4. Nike
If modest swimwear is what you’re looking for, Nike is doing it and doing it well. Many of the cuts are perfect for whatever athletics you’re getting up to and if full coverage is paramount, there are options for that, too.
Our Picks:
The swim tunic provides sun protection as well as modesty—and while the hijab and pants are sold separately, there are various Nike options to choose from.
A gorgeous pattern on a one-piece, perfectly made for everything from surfing to sand castle contests.
5. Eres
If there was ever a worthy swimsuit splurge this would be it. Founded in Paris in 1968, Eres has been making beloved, high-quality, fashionable swimwear for decades. So while the price point may be high, Eres is a true example of a company perfecting their art.
Our Picks:
Vibrant color options and a silhouette that will never go out of style.
*So* many string bikini tops and a rainbow of colors to choose from. Mix and match with the bottom of your choice and you’ll find that the perfect swimsuit does exist.
6. Swimsuits for All
The name really lays the mission out there: Swimsuits for All. The sizes range from 2-40 (depending on style), and the site has handy tools to help you shop by body shape. In addition to all that, they often carry buzzy capsule collections with models like Ashley Graham and Camille Kostek, which keeps their designs on top of the trends.
Our Picks:
Super sexy while still offering enough coverage and support for frolicking, this one piece is a knockout. It also comes in a variety of colors and sizes ranging from 4-24.
This top is insanely cute but the best part about it? The sizing. Cup sizes range from D-H (as do many of the tops by Swimsuits for All).
7. Aerie
Aerie is probably already on your radar for its adorable and affordable intimates and workout wear, but their bathing suits are just as adorable, affordable, and absolutely nothing to sleep on.
Our Picks:
All the patterns are great, but we’re partial to the aquatic Marbled Blue. Whichever pattern you choose though, it’s the keyhole cutout that makes this top a standout.
Just the right amount of fabric-to-skin ratio in this cutout one piece, and just the right amount of shine in the fabric, too. And—like most Aerie items—at $49 this bathing suit is some serious bang for your buck.
Leopard print with flecks of subtle pink. This ultra affordable bikini bottom is the ideal balance of cheeky and fun.
8. Agua by Agua Bendita
Featuring some of the best prints in the bathing suit biz, Colombian label Agua by Agua Bendita hires locals for the production of their suits, features handmade illustrations, and is all about keeping sustainability front and center. These bathing suits are truly special items made with a whole lot of care.
Our Picks:
The sweet-as-can-be floral pattern was enough to win us over, but the cut is just as covetable, too. Heart shaped neckline, adjustable straps—this is a truly beautiful swimsuit that’s sure to elicit many a compliment.
It’s a tie between what we like more in this high waisted bottom: the print or the subtle ruffle.
9. Summersalt
Summersalt has amassed a major fan-following following thanks to its superb quality at an under $100 price point—plus, we love the brand’s signature pops of color (the rest of their non-swimwear apparel is just as bright and fun, too). If that weren’t enough to entice, they also don’t mess around when it comes to size inclusivity, and feature sizes from 0 to 24.
Our Picks:
The Sidestroke has turned into the brand’s signature suit, and that’s likely because the ultra cool one-shoulder one-piece flatters so many different body types.
Summersalt is currently doing a capsule collection with the stationary company Rifle Paper Co. and the patterns they’ve cooked up together are so whimsical and vibrant they’re just begging to be worn.
10. Everlane
Everlane has made a name for itself as the clothing company for minimalist millennials, and their swimsuits are no exception. Their bathing suits are also eco-friendly (made from 82 percent recycled nylon) and ready to be mixed and matched.
Our Picks:
We love the simplicity of this top, and we especially love that it was fit-tested on 112 different women to make sure that coverage, comfort, and cute-factor worked on as many people as possible.
Finding a flattering, classic bikini bottom can be difficult—and here’s one that costs just about as much as a Seamless order. Also, Everlane did that 112 women fit-test thing here, too. We approve.
11. Haight
These swimsuits are a little bit on the pricier end, but our favorite thing about them is their versatility. Pair it with sandals and a beach towel, and you’re pool ready. Slip on some jeans and these suits do double duty as very cute tops.
Our Picks:
With underwire and darts in the silhouette this swimsuit is more than just eye candy, it’s extremely well made.
Just as finely crafted as the Pied Poule, what we love most about this suit is the high neck to keep that delicate décolletage of yours out of the sun.
12. J. Crew
J. Crew. You know it, you love it (or at least rely on it for cute basics). But the truth of the matter is J. Crew knows how to do what they do—and what they’ve been doing is making good quality clothes (at reasonable prices) for decades. Their swimsuits fall right into that sweet spot. They offer plenty of styles and patterns, so there’s always something for everyone.
Our Picks:
The ruched line J. Crew has going on right now is right up our alley. It gives Esther Williams vibes with splashes of modern colors and contemporary cuts. This might be our favorite one.
Another ruched knockout is the full-coverage bottom. Pair it with a ruched top or mix it up with something of a totally different style—either way works. It also just happens to be quite on sale.
13. Andie
This startup has been around for roughly five years and gotten buzz for all the right reasons. Andie is keen on size inclusivity—with style ranging from XS to 5XL—as well as keeping their costs down by cutting out the “middleman.” These are designer level bathing suits for less than $100, and we love to see it (and wear it).
Our Picks:
One of the company’s best sellers, The Malibu is flattering with snap button detail that makes it a standout. If you need it to be sporty, just button up. If sexy is the goal, leave a few of those snaps open.
It’s all about the plunging neckline, which provides nice coverage and extends to just the right spot. These may sound like small details but the perfect bathing suit is all about the details.
14. Fisch
The designs at Fisch are gorgeous, but what really caught our eye was the company’s eco ethos. Fisch bathing suits are made from regenerated fishing nets and ocean waste. Hats off to that harmony of beauty and love for Mother Earth.
Our Picks:
Did we mention the patterns? This bathing suit was designed so that the cups mimic seashells and it’s definitely giving us just the right amount of Little Mermaid energy. We also appreciate the warning that the top runs small.
Underwire cups, great strap width, but once again: it really is all about the pattern.
15. Hatch
Hatch is the mothership for modern maternity wear and their bathing suits are yet another example of their highly-fashionable options for growing bellies.
Our Picks:
This price includes both top and bottom which we appreciate. Also, the high waisted bottom with ruching on the sides is just the right kind of flattering for every trimester.
Simple, simple, simple with a tiny bit of detail: note the side ruching and scoop neck frills both of which call attention to the best parts of pregnancy (the boobs and bump). The straps are also convertible so you can style the back any which way you choose.
16. Vitamin A
California-based Vitamin A is an influencer favorite with a penchant for doing good. A portion of every sale goes to 1% For The Planet, an organization doing work to protect our planet. Combine Earth love with highly Instagrammable bathing suits, and you’ve made a company we are bound to be fans of.
Our Picks:
This best-seller for Vitamin A is what they call a “must have,” and we see why. The ribbing is subtle and sophisticated, and the color options are exactly the unexpected shades we’ve been looking for.
An ultra-chic halter top making some very good use of hardwire. Pair it with any bottom, because the beauty of the Cosmo Top is that it truly goes with anything.
17. Lonely
Lonely’s following began thanks to their size inclusive lingerie, but their swimwear is just as fun, and offers a little bit of a hipster beach bent. These options are a tiny bit outside of the box, and we love them for it.
Our Picks:
The sparkle in this suit is so pretty we’d covet the fabric even if the bathing suit didn’t come in a swath of sizes from XS to XXL.
It may look like velvet, but that’s all some really well done fabric trickery. This top, like most of Lonely’s items, is unexpected. Which is exactly what makes us want to rock it.
