Hello…it’s another year and another UFO Dirty Dozen Challenge. If you’ve been here a while, you know that Mary at Country Threads Chicken Scratch blog hosts a Dirty Dozen Challenge. Participants number their UFOs 1-12 then each month Mary picks a number. Participants refer back to their list and then work on the project that was chosen. I’ve been fairly successful with this in the past even though I stray and don’t always follow the directions. I’m a rebel, what can I say. Mary is very loose with the “rules” and flexible so it’s all good.
This year Mary has thrown a twist into it all. Apparently, people have better control of their UFOs than I do and don’t have 12 UFOs. They want to join in the fun too so Mary made an option that participants can do a color version with new starts. In this case, someone would list colors 1-12 instead of UFOs. I am doing my Dirty Dozen list with UFO projects.
I have some carry-overs from last year that I am putting on the list. I have a few other things that have come from blog readers that I plan to finish up too so I’m adding some of those to the list as well.
#1 S’mores Quilt-
This was gifted by a blog reader. I’m really excited about this. Blog readers have asked that this be a quilt along. I’m game to start in September!!
After some looking, I think this is the original pattern by Jo Morton.
I bought the ruler for this HERE on Amazon and can’t wait to dive into this. This one might sneak its way into being picked sooner than the number is called.
#2 This was gifted by ….a blog reader, the same one that gifted the S’mores quilt.
I am super excited about this…I’m happy that one of the quilts in the listing doesn’t look complicated to finish.

#3 Black Stars
This was also gifted by the same blog reader. I want to make this into a Fall table runner for my dining room table.
Although this will be a smaller project, it still might be a lot as those blocks are tiny and I’ll need to make some more of them.
I think I will alternate cheddar-colored squares between the stars. We’ll see.
#4-Floribunda-
There really isn’t a start to this. I would feel more comfortable calling it a kit than a start.

Lately, I’ve only picked projects that can be done quickly. For this one, I have to cut the whole thing out. I have a feeling this one might not get finished but I want to put it on the list and try.
#5- Red with Bow Ties- This is another gifted project from the same blog reader.
I would love to find more of this exact red and finish it as it is but I don’t think I’ll be able to find it. Does anyone know what fabric that is? If I can’t find it, I’ll rip it partially apart and mix in other reds.
#6-Oregon or Bust- Last year I cut up the shirts needed for this but didn’t make any progress in getting it cut out.
This is a Bonnie Hunter quilt. It’s from the book Scraps and Shirttails II. I have long wanted to make this ever since I found Mary from Country Threads version.
I collected shirts for several years as Mary’s version was made with only blue and orange 100% cotton upcycled shirts and I wanted to make mine like hers.
I pulled the box in the writing of this and finally feel like I’ve collected enough shirts. Again, this one needs cutting and I’m starting to think that’s my least favorite part of making quilts so I stall at cutting. HA!! Again, this is really more of a kit.
#7-Sofie’s Quilt- I haven’t touched this.
This is a quilt of a friend of mine. They found it in grandma’s cedar chest. I’m really nervous about this and just need to quit worrying and try.
I LOVE the design. I’d like to replicate this quilt.
This has stalled again…because of TIME and because I’m nervous about it. It’s one of those, I have to pull up my big girl pants and just DO IT!
#8-Sugar Bowl- This is another that’s really more of a kit.

#9-Virginia Bound:
This one is a top…sort of. I have the center section done.

I know what I’m doing with this but haven’t had time. This one is right at the top of my UFO list to finish. I’m hoping by fall to have this one finished.
If the number isn’t pulled for this one when I want to finish it, I’m going to manipulate my numbers around and do this one anyway.
It’s getting its own special border and I’m making it for Craig.
#10-Hawaiian Sunset- I had so hoped I would finish this one…alas.
If you’re a long-time blog reader, you know I’ve wanted to do this for YEARS.
This one has had lots of progress. The blocks are finished. I was able to get the fabric so this one will be moving forward in the nearer future. This one is another that will probably sneak its way into the list sooner than the number is called. 
I’ve been working on this and have the momentum going so I want to finish it.
#11 American Quilters Quilt Along- I’d love to put this one first on the list for Mary to pick as I’d like to finish it in July as it’s a patriotic quilt.
This is a Primitive Gatherings work from last summer. I have worked on it this week and have it all into a top. I’ll tell you more about that in Monday’s post.
#12 True Blue
This is another gifted UFO from a blog reader. It is the cover quilt from the book Spice of Life Quilts by Carrie Nelson.
I had always wanted to make this quilt. Then the blog reader gifted me this started piece so I’m figuring the time is now to tackle it. I’m guessing I will donate this quilt when it’s finished. I was able to get a few more blocks sewn on this. I plan to work on this even if the number isn’t called.
I have other UFOs…
These are some Flying Geese a blog reader sent me and I sewed them together to make a simple table topper. I need to completely finish it. I want this done for fall.
This is LONG-LONG term UFO. I unearthed it a couple of months ago. I’ve made a half dozen more blocks here and there but never dove into it. I’d really like to see more progress on this over the next year.
These are some hourglass blocks that Kelli sent home with me. Years ago as one of her first projects she sewed them together. The problem, she was a new quilter, and the blocks were all different sizes. She was going to throw them away. I said NO! I went through and trimmed them all down to the same size and then the project just sat. I have a plan for them but haven’t executed that plan. I need to figure out the fabric. This is an old fabric line and I anticipate having trouble finding coordination fabric.
I still have Frolic Leftovers. I really think I have enough to make a minimum of two more quilts with it! WOW…right? I’ve already made four quilts with letovers.
Speaking of Frolic leftovers…I have this quilt that needs longarming.
I have a couple more UFOs courtesy of the two great packages that came in the mail. I’ll post a couple of pictures here. If I get time, I’d love to tackle a couple of these as well.

I wasn’t going to add the double wedding ring quilt but then decided to. I’m afraid I’ll put it off if I don’t. All that needs to be finished it adding the binding.
That was 24 projects if I counted right. Offda. I am hoping to have tackled about half by next year. I think that’s doable.
I am happy to have all of these UFOs. Have you noticed that most listed here are from the wonderful packages that were sent to me? On my own, I had gotten my UFOs in fairly good control. Now I have lots again and that is TOTALLY okay. I am THRILLED with the goodies the sweet anonymous blog reader sent.
As much as I want to jump on the UFO train and ride full speed ahead, I have some other things that have to come first. Gannon and Georgia need quilts for preschool. I have a plan for them both and started on Gannon’s. I need a baby quilt for our grandson due in October. I am tackling one of these UFOs as a gift for Craig and want to finish them at the same time. I also have a benefit in August I always make a quilt for. I don’t know if I have a quilt in my stack that will work for that or if I need to make one. I need something for the local Pet Rescue for their benefit in November. Those things will all bump in and take priority over UFO projects and some UFO projects might end up getting finished for these purposes…oh, and I need a boy baby quilt for a friend. So much to sew!!
I’m not sure I’ll follow the rules on this. I might bump a project in quicker than called for. I might pull one from the bottom un-numbered listing and do one of those instead. I might work on two projects at once. I still like to play along and keep track of UFOs and things I want to work on.
