Going on a weekend trip is one of the most affordable ways to break up your routine and explore new places. Whether you're headed away for 48 hours or longer, booking cabins in Tennessee or visiting family, packing the right items is essential.

With that in mind, here are some suggestions for things that you should pack when going on a short vacation

.

Bring a Camera or Smartphone

For most people, bringing their phone would be enough to capture all the memories of their trip, but getting a camera is still a good idea if something goes wrong with your phone and no other cameras are available to use. A smartphone can also benefit you in ways different from taking pictures. For instance, you might want to use it for GPS or Google Maps. If you do not have access to a smartphone (or would like an extra layer of security), bring along at least one additional non-digital camera.

Check your items to make sure they're in good working order before leaving.

Toiletries

Makeup, contact solution, shampoo, conditioner (if you use it), deodorant, toothbrush, toothpaste, floss, the list goes on...

Bring these essentials to keep yourself clean and feeling confident in your looks. If you're bringing makeup or contact lens solution, make sure you don't forget to bring the tools needed to use them. For instance, if you're bringing makeup, you'll need brushes or sponges for application. If you don't have those at home, consider borrowing some from a friend or family member before leaving.

Necessary Clothing

This would be clothing that you will need to wear on your trip. For example, if you are traveling for 48 hours, then bringing two pairs of pants/skirts along with matching tops is necessary.

Pack enough clothing to keep yourself warm and clothed for the duration of your trip. If you're going away for a more extended period, make sure that you have at least a couple of pairs of shoes or sandals to wear.

Toilet Paper and Wet Wipes

You never know when a restroom might not be available for use, so a supply of toilet paper/wet wipes ready to go is always helpful. If there's room in your bag for these items, then pack them.

First Aid and Prescription Medications

Any prescription meds and first aid items you might need to take every day: aspirin, allergy medication, blood pressure medication, etc.

Pack your prescription medications to be sure you have enough for the duration of your trip. If there are over-the-counter medications that you need to take every day, make sure to pack enough for however long you will be away. Also, bring any allergy medication or blood pressure medication that you might need regularly.

Tools

Scissors, a Swiss Army knife, etc. Pack the things that could be useful and helpful when in a new place and away from your usual resources. For instance, a Swiss Army knife would be beneficial for someone who has never been to their destination before and might need some help getting around or locating something they have lost.

Entertainment

Bring entertainment items so you can enjoy yourself during your trip. Books are always good to keep you company, especially if you're going somewhere new and would like something to help familiarize you with the area. Music is also great for entertaining yourself on a trip. If you know of any games or puzzles that can be played alone, bring those as well.

Pack your bag securely before leaving, so everything is safe and sound when it's time to go. Enjoy!
