Facebook Group Member of the Month: Trudy Amann-Edelkott

I adore Trudy Amann-Edelkott, this month’s Facebook Group Member of the Month.  I got to know her early on during the pandemic when we were all in lockdown.  I decided to start a Zoom knitting bee for members of the Facebook Group, which was really just an opportunity for members to get together for an hour on Saturdays and chat.  A few brought their knitting and other handcrafts while others just brought themselves.  Members joined from all over the world, the discussions were delightful, engaging, fun, and exactly the type of distraction we all needed at the time.

Trudy joined in a few times, all the way from Germany.  She’s a soft, gentle, kind soul and just one of the loveliest women I have had the pleasure of meeting.  It was so nice to have this time to get to know her so I thought tapping her to be featured as a member of the month would be perfect.  Let’s all get to know her a bit better, shall we?

Name: Trudy (Gertrude) Amann-Edelkott

Location: Ehingen (Donau), Baden-Württemberg
Germany

Age: 60

Q: What do you like most about being a member of Bridgette’s Facebook Group?

A: It is a group of wonderful women struggling more or less with some style issues and willing to share. And the group gives honest advice, cheering, and compassion. It feels like a group of friends, but there is also a lot of creativity and stimulation.

Q: The biggest benefits you have received from being a Group member

A:  Helpful guidance and honest advice and different perspectives on topics that are discussed.

Q: What would you tell women who haven’t joined the Group yet?

A: Just join. It’s fun and you immediately get responses when you ask a question.

Q: How would you describe your style?

A: Classic with a twist. I don‘t like frills and flowery patterns. I prefer natural materials like wool, cotton, linen, and leather. I have a collection of necklaces and scarves to jazz up my single-color shirts and sweaters. I like comfort but not being sloppy.

Q: How did you discover your style?

A: When I was young, my best friend (we are friends since school days), helped me trust in my choices. I learned what suits me and what feels good.  If there are doubts I learned to listen to that inner voice and not buy something just because I like the color or cut.

Q: What advice do you have for others trying to find their style?

A: Don’t totally copy other women.  Try to find out what you like about other looks and adjust it to your size, color, and height. Find out what makes you feel confident.

Q: What fashion issues are you currently struggling with?

A: The weight I gained in the last two years (age, stress, and COVID) is all on my belly.
I struggle with tops and dresses between being too loose and too figure-hugging.

Q: What are the most versatile items you have in your closet?

A: All my scarves. There is a moment for every single one.  And I never know when this moment arrives 😉   A scarf changes every outfit and brings color or pattern to it.

Q: If you could go back and change the way you dressed in the past, what would you change?

A:  In retrospect, old photos often look ridiculous but fashion changes. There is nothing I would change except that I wasn’t more daring at times.

Q: Is there a fashion purchase you made that you found more useful than you thought it would be?

A:  A grey jacket (Marc Cain) I wear in spring or on cold summer days

Q: What about a fashion purchase that you thought would solve all your problems, but didn’t?

A: A white blouse (Marc Cain) I hoped would go with jeans and skirts and everything.  It’s a  classic white with nice details on the sleeves to make it interesting.  But I am just not a blouse person, collars bother me and shear white is not my color.

Q: How do you envision yourself when you look your best?

A: Radiant, happy with myself, and not boring. Well-groomed and ageless.

Q: What are your biggest fashion goals for the year?

A: Quality over quantity and not to buy something on a whim. In the last year, thanks to COVID, I leaned to more comfortable pants and shirts and I want to shift back.

Q: What is the best fashion advice you ever received?

A: Bridgette’s blog. She has a lot of sound advice on how to go shopping, versatile clothing and how to dress for the life one lives, and so on.

Q: The first thing you take off when you get home?

A: My shoes. I like to go barefoot or in socks.

Q: Favorite color(s) to wear

A: All Blues – marine to blue-green, all sorts of grey, black, and yellow. I never wear tomato red.

Q: Favorite stores to shop?

A: Opus, Someday, Marc O’Polo, and second hand – where I can find quality for less money.

Q: What makes you happiest?

A: I love reading but the walks with my dog and to feel the change of the seasons is essential for my happiness. I love to experiment with different materials. Currently, I dye wool and linen with all sorts of plants I collect while walking with my dog. But I also like to create necklaces with all kinds of beads and do some knitting.

Q: What inspires you?

A: Nature, art and creative people.

Q: Use One Word to Describe Your Style

A: It’s me
