There are few things more maternal than going out to hunt for food for your family. I happen to be a mother that hunts. When Mother’s Day rolls around, I’d honestly just be grateful for some peace and quiet. Now, when it comes to Mother’s Day gifts, there are endless options for moms. Trust me when I say she’ll appreciate just about anything, but why not go big?
If you have a mom who hunts, get her something awesome that will make her time in the field a little more comfortable, successful, and all-around better. Sure, get her a few bath bombs and some coffee, too, but why not throw in a killer jacket or a rangefinder?
We’ve put together a list of hunting gifts sure to make moms giddy when Mother’s Day rolls around.
Hunting Gifts for Mother’s Day
KUIU Guide Jacket
The KUIU Guide Jacket is a phenomenal choice if you want to win brownie points from Mom this Mother’s Day. This is one of those hunting jackets that transitions from the field to everyday life seamlessly. It’s a stylish everyday wear type of jacket that will also help Mom bring home the bacon, if you know what I mean.
Argali Trekking Poles
Listen, these aren’t your typical trekking poles, and as a mom, I love them. The Argali Carbon X Trekking Poles are lightweight, comfortable in hand, and have attachments that make them a hunter’s dream. Not only will they help Mom trek out with a heavy pack after a successful hunt, but they also convert to a glassing monopod and a shooting stick. After carrying the weight of a family all week, help Mom out by making her glassing experience more comfortable and her shooting more accurate.
First Lite Kiln Merino Hoodie
This is THE sweatshirt. If your mom loves wool (who doesn’t?), the First Lite Kiln Merino Hoodie is what dreams are made of. It’s buttery soft, and yet insanely warm. This is another one of those products that I wear into the field that does an impeccable job at keeping the shivers away. Here’s the best part: I wear it around the house even more than I wear it hunting. It’s just the perfect hoodie. I mean, it isn’t cheap, but for once — it is worth it.
Vasque St Elias Hunting Boot
When I think of hunting gifts for Mother’s Day, for some reason, I want them to be multi-purpose. The St. Elias boots are an example of a capable hunting boot that is stylish enough to wear into town and comfortable enough to hit a trailhead for a hike. This is one of those boots that just looks good while it performs. Whether your mom is packing out game bags or pulling weeds, these make a great pair of boots for Mother’s Day.
Leupold RX-Fulldraw 5 Rangefinder
If your mom is the bowhunting type, you should ask what rangefinder she uses. I know a lot of women who don’t invest in a solid rangefinder because just about any rangefinder will do. However, the RX-Fulldraw 5 from Leupold is about as top-o’-the-line as it gets for a bowhunter. If you want to watch Mom melt into a puddle of excitement, get her a rangefinder that will tune to her bow setup and calculate the more accurate readings from her bow’s velocity, peep height, arrow weight, and the angle of her shots. Yep … this thing does all that.
OVRLNDR Travel Press
For the mom who loves that sweet, sweet bean juice, there isn’t a better travel coffee press out there. This thing is rugged. Not only is it rugged, but it also has a plunger that prevents the coffee from over steeping. The biggest perk? You can drink straight out of it. You just pop the top and sip as if it were a travel mug. But wait — there’s more. The bottom of the press is removable for easy cleaning. This thing solves all of the irritation that comes along with trying to brew a real cup of coffee in the field. Mom will love it.
Bow Spider
The Bow Spider is one of my favorite gadgets as a bowhunter. The reality is that women, in general, are smaller framed than the average male bowhunter. Carrying our bow along with all our other gear can be a bit of a challenge on a long hike. Sure, you can always strap your bow to your pack, but what about situations where you want to have your bow within reach? The Bow Spider solves that problem by attaching your bow to your hipbelt and allowing you to hike hands-free. If your mom is a backcountry bowhunter, she probably doesn’t even know that she needs one of these yet.
Duck Camp Women’s Line
Duck Camp finally has a women’s line, and it’s all rad. To be honest, the bulk of it is more casual apparel, but some pieces like the Bamboo Hoodie and the Gruene Pants would work both at home, work, or chasing pheasants. Available in camo and solid colors, you can pick and choose what you think your mom will actually like and wear.
WaterPort
I’ve had this WaterPort tank for nearly a year and couldn’t love it more. It holds just enough water to hose off all the muddy nastiness picked up on boots and gear after a long hunting weekend. If your mom is anything like me, she’ll love that she can hose stuff off before loading it up. It just makes putting gear away so much more pleasant.
Haven Tent
The Haven Tent lineup is sweet and different. If you have the kind of mom that is a solo adventurer, whether she hunts or not, this is just a fun tent that can be tossed up in a hurry and is so incredibly comfortable. If you have a mom that struggles with back pain (don’t we all), these tents/hammocks lay almost totally flat with some give. There’s a level of comfort in these that you just can’t find on the ground. With little accessories like lights, it turns a simple camp setup into a glamp setup in a hurry. I’m not saying I have one in my yard for random naps, but I might.
Show Mom You Care This Mother’s Day
Moms work hard, and I think most of us don’t extend nearly enough appreciation. If you have a mama that hunts, why not get her a hunting gift for Mother’s Day? I’m sure she puts a ton of thought into your gifts. It’s your turn to think of her.
Now, if she’s not the hunting type, I highly recommend checking our list of gifts for moms who fish. If she’s at home in both the stream and field, you know what to do. And don’t forget, spending time with Mom doing something fun is likely the greatest gift of all.
