Seattle Kids Weekend Events: Aug. 20-22

If you’re wondering where the summer’s gone, we’re right there with you. But here’s the good news—it’s not over yet. Seattle is full up on festivals and fun for families this weekend. We can’t wait for: a seaside storytime, an on-ice experience for little Kraken fans and the return of everyone’s favorite kindie music star.

World Rhythm Festival
Drum, dance, listen and learn at the 27th Annual World Rhythm Festival. The event features multi-cultural drum and dance performances and workshops for everyone, beginner to advanced. Scheduled acts include: Latin band Todo Es, Jazz/ Hip Hop band Goody Bagg, African dance workshops from Kouyate Arts and workshops from the likes of conguero Arturo Rodrigues and Peruvian cajon player Monica Rojas; all local acts showcasing the talent and diversity of the Seattle music community! Storytime with the Seattle Aquarium
If you’ve been missing storytime at the Aquarium, the wait is over. This weekend, join Seattle Aquarium staff for an outdoor storytime at Pier 62. We will read an ocean-themed children’s book, and complete a fun craft related to the book. The program is best for kids 6 and under and their families. Although no reservation is necessary, space is limited, so plan to arrive at least 20 minutes before the program starts for the best seat. Remember to dress for the weather, as this program is held outdoors. Sat. Event details.

Try Hockey for Free
Calling all Kraken fans! Try Hockey For Free is an event where young kids get to have their first on-ice hockey experience. Expect plenty of coaches on hand to provide your child the fun, safe and exciting hockey environment that is standard practice at Seattle Junior Hockey Association. Skaters will get an opportunity to learn the basic skills of youth hockey and enjoy their first game, too. Sun. Event details.

Join this celebration at Marymoor Park (pictured) with a focus on local food, sustainable living and tons of fun! Families will find booths, food, activities and more at this outdoor festival. Kids will also jump at the chance to spend time with the cuddly creatures from Dandelion Fuzzies Minifarm, marvel at the possibility of climbing a tree and dance their pants off when Caspar Babypants takes the stage for the first time in over 18 months. Sat. Event details.

Kiddie Kilo at the Velodrome
Do you think your little rider’s got what it takes? The Kiddie Kilo is open to anyone that can ride a bicycle, tricycle, a scoot bike… anything goes! Kids as young as 2 have participated in this fun ride around the track. Held on the first and third Friday of every month, show up a bit early to register, and don’t forget your helmet. Fri. Event details.

Henrietta’s Summer Bash
Henrietta is throwing a summer party and everyone is invited! Join the folks at the Cougar Mountain Zoo in Issquah for some tropical fun with themed games, raffles, prizes and much more. There will be special guest appearances from Henrietta and some of the zoo’s other amazing ambassador animals. Take your photo with Henrietta and take part in the photo-op scavenger hunt, too. Tickets required. Sat. Event details.
