Best things to buy at the new Thai Supermarket
It’s almost time for the new Thai Supermarket to reopen at Aperia Mall, since their closure at Golden Mile Complex earlier this year. They’ve downsized from 10,000 square feet to a smaller 6,000 square-foot space, but it’s spanking new, and no longer closed—which IMO is what counts the most. Second-most important is how they’ve not reduced the number of Thai and Vietnamese products they bring in, and continue to refresh the selection! We’ve sussed out some of the best things to get at the new Thai Supermarket, so you have something to look forward to.
1. Chang Espresso Beer
You’ve heard of Chang Beer, of course, but the brand also came up with Chang Espresso Lager, a full-bodied, coffee-infused beer that you’ll find right here in the Thai Supermarket at Aperia Mall. The base of this drink is Chang Beer’s signature lager, blended with coffee made with roasted Arabica and Robusta beans grown in Thailand, Laos, and Vietnam.
If you needed further justification to cart this out, this Espresso Lager was crowned Thailand’s Country Winner for a Gold Award in the Flavoured Beer category at the 2021 World Beer Awards!
2. Instant noodles
There’s an entire aisle dedicated to Thai instant noodles at the Thai Supermarket, and it’s not just limited to the Mama Instant Noodles you typically find at the supermart. Seasoning megacorp Ajinomoto’s range of Thai instant noodles, YumYum Jumbo, can be found here, and their TomYum Kung NamKhon, AKA creamy tom yum, is way better than their Mama counterpart—IMO.
As for cup noodles, consider Double Dragon brand’s bean vermicelli, or instant tung hoon that’s ready in just three minutes. It comes in Boat Noodle, Creamy Tom Yum Soup, and Super Spicy Soup flavours, and clocks in at under 200 calories a cup.

3. Thai-flavoured chips
Save yourself the trouble of carrying local-flavoured crisps back from BKK on your next trip, and simply head to the new Thai Supermarket for the latest Thailand-exclusive Lay’s potato chips. We found Fried Chicken Wings & Sriracha Sauce, Boat Noodles, Charcoal Grilled Chicken & Somtum, and Stir Fried Shrimp with Chilli & Garlic flavours, which actually taste pretty close to the real deal.
4. Self-heating cup noodles
Move over, Haidilao self-heating hot pots, because Hot Cup has a range of self-heating instant noodles that will save you the effort of even boiling water for supper. Simply pop open the bowl, then add water both to the noodles with the included seasoning, as well as to the outer bowl with the self-heating sachet, and wait for the magic to happen. It’s hot enough that you can even crack an egg in midway through to cook.
This comes in flavours including Yentafo Tomyum, which is a Thai-style yong tau foo with pink soup, Seafood, and a Spicy version.

5. Sriracha sauce
The history of sriracha sauce dates back to the 1940s, when a home cook created a spicy chilli sauce, naming it after the town she lived in, which was called Si Racha—but the version we’re more familiar with was popularised by a Vietnamese immigrant to the USA several decades later.
Essentially a hot sauce made with chilli peppers, vinegar, garlic, sugar, and salt, every brand of sriracha out there has its own spin on it; and get this, Thai Supermarket stocks not one or two, but more than seven brands of sriracha! They come in both big- and small-sized bottles, and even variations on sriracha, such as Crying Thaiger‘s Ketchup Sriracha Chilli Sauce and Sriracha Mayo Chilli Sauce.
6. Glass bottle Coca-Cola
Drinking Coke out of a glass bottle is, without question, the best way to have it. Whether it’s the sense of nostalgia that brings, or the novelty of not having it from a can, glass bottles are better at retaining the carbonation and flavours of the drink. Get yourself some bottles of Coke and Sprite at the Thai Supermarket and try it for yourself.
7. Thai spice pastes
Since it was founded in 1977, Lobo has become one of the top brands of spice mixes in Thailand, with their products found in Asian supermarkets all over the world. At the Thai Supermarket, you’ll find dozens of Lobo pastes, including ones for Pad Thai, Khao Soi, which is a Northern Thai curry noodle dish, Potted Seafood, and even one for Pad Krapow, AKA Holy Basil Seasoning Paste.
That’s not all, you can make your own Thai sausages at home too, with these easy-to-use packets—we spotted one for Sai Oua, and another for Sai Krok E-San, a fermented sausage made with pork and rice from the Northeastern part of Thailand. These packets even come with collagen casings for your sausages!
8. Vitamilk
Not to be confused with Vitasoy, a Hong Kong-founded company, Vitamilk is the OG brand of ready-to-drink soy milk in Thailand. Relive your BKK memories by stocking up on the soy drink in all its flavours: Regular, Choco Grande, Black Soy Bean and more. These come in glass bottles too, adding to the legit BKK feels.
9. Thai marinades and sauce pastes
Avid home cooks will literally go crazy in the sauce aisles at the Thai Supermarket—I did. There are two whole sections dedicated to fish sauce; one for the Thai version, and another for the Vietnamese. We were told that Maepranom is one of the most well-loved brands amongst local Thais, in particular for their Tom Yum Paste and Instant Tom Kha Paste.
Another paste that came highly recommended was Thai Aree‘s Thai Lemongrass Chicken marinade, a halal-certified paste that is preservative- and MSG-free.
10. Thai crispy chicken wings flour
We were let in on the secret to crispy Thai chicken wings: it’s all in the Crispy Flour that they use. We’ve not tried it for ourselves, but you’ll find multiple brands of seasoned flour for this exact purpose at the Thai Supermarket, in various seasonings including Hot & Spicy, and Garlic Pepper versions.

11. Hi-oh basil seed drinks
Similar to chia seeds, basil seeds soaked in liquid become a source of soluble fibre that’s said to be good for your gut health, and may promote healthy cholesterol levels and appetite control, though these are not widely proven. Rather than hunt down some of these seeds, check out Hi-oh‘s fruit-flavoured basil seed drinks instead, which come in almost 10 different flavours, such as Lychee, Strawberry, Pineapple, Orange and more.

12. Honey Rice Crackers
The team behind Thai Supermarket checked out the biggest hits at Big C, and brought them right here to Singapore, including these Honey Rice Crackers that are, in short, puffed rice cakes lightly coated in honey. If you haven’t tried them before, here’s your chance. They also come in the Original flavour, as well as Wasabi, Tom Yum, Cheese, and Seaweed.
13. Cha Tra Mue
Think of ชาเย็น (cha yen), otherwise known as Thai Iced Tea, and the first thing that pops into mind should be Cha Tra Mue, the leading brand of tea in Thailand. With its unmistakable thumbs-up logo and tins, the family-run business has been around the block and back since 1945. You’ll find all three of the brand’s Thai teas here: Original Thai Tea, Gold Label Original Thai Tea, which is said to be made with a higher grade of premium tea leaves, and Thai Milk Green Tea.
To make the cha yen-making process smoother, you’ll also be able to get the essential ingredients of condensed and evaporated milk on the same rack. Otherwise, check out the brand’s instant three-in-one sachets for extra convenience.
14. Thai street snacks
For those of you who FOMO while scrolling through our friends’ Thai adventures online, take the edge off with packaged khanom buang (ขนมเบื้อง), or Roasted Crispy Thai Crepes, found right here in Thai Supermarket. These will definitely never match up to the ones you get on the street, but they’re not shabby either.
For those who don’t know what to expect, these are wafer-thin, taco-like shells made with a mix of rice and mung bean flours, enveloping a meringue-like cream that’s sprinkled with either a sweet or savoury topping.
What to buy at the new Thai Supermarket
This list is by no means an exhaustive one of all the items you should get at the Thai Supermarket when it reopens, but if you don’t know where to start looking, start with some of the stuff we’ve listed here.
