Banana & Oats Breakfast Smoothie (Great for Nursing Mamas!)

Almost every morning, I make a banana & oats smoothie. I call it this, because those are the two main ingredients that never change. The others can be switched out as desired for a variety of flavors. The combination I use most often is pictured: oats, honey, peanut butter, milk, banana, flax seeds, and milk (plus a few ice cubes). This smoothie tastes great and helps me start the day with some potassium, protein, and calcium. A key to the great flavor is using oatmeal packets that are already flavored. I tried the recipe with plain rolled oats, and it just didn’t have much flavor. Maple and cinnamon types of flavors work best with these ingredients.

If you prefer a chocolate flavor, switch out the peanut butter for Nutella or cocoa powder. Or you could use a little of everything. Include whichever seeds you prefer–flax, chia, etc. I recently started using flax seeds, because they help nursing mamas produce more milk.

To go a completely different route, use strawberries & cream flavored oatmeal with frozen mixed berries. You get the idea. Start with a banana and a packet of oatmeal and get creative.

I love this because it’s fast and easy. I throw everything into my Magic Bullet for a few seconds. It’s the perfect on-the-go option for busy mornings.
