Brown Butter Banana Bread

This banana bread is a classic but elevated version with brown butter, chocolate chips, and walnuts. Browning the butter adds a nuttiness and complex flavor to the bread and pairs so well with sweetness from the brown sugar and banana. I love both chocolate chips and walnuts in my banana bread, but feel free to leave one or the other out. I hope you try it out and enjoy!

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (if using salted, add only 1/4 tsp salt)
  • 1/2 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 3 ripe and spotty bananas, mashed
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup mini chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts

1. Preheat oven to 350 F
2. Add butter to skillet on medium heat. Stir continuously until golden brown. Turn off heat once golden, and keep stirring until butter turns deep brown. It can burn quickly so keep your eye on it!
3. Stir together browned butter and brown sugar in a large bowl. Let cool for a few minutes. In the meantime, mash your bananas.
4. Add egg, vanilla, and bananas to butter mixture and mix well.
5. Next add in flour, baking soda, cinnamon, and salt and stir until just combined.
6. Stir in mini chocolate chips and chopped walnuts. Try not to overmix.
7. Pour batter into loaf pan and bake for 45-55 mins, until a toothpick comes out clean.
