Adopt a Stocking: Mom suffers from health issues, roof leaks, no presents for kids

SPENCERVILLE — A Spencerville woman we’ll call Kay is down on her luck this Christmas.

She’s battling Crohn’s disease, and it’s tough to pay her bills and make needed repairs on her home.

“I was working as an STNA, and I can no longer work any longer. They’re watching my liver and my kidneys, and I might have to be placed on a waitlist for a liver donation,” Kay said.

The roof on her home leaks, and she could use some help in that area too.

“It’s leaking in different places all through the house,” Kay said. “We have a guy who will come, and he’ll do patchwork to it so there’s like patches, but at times even those patches will give up and still leak. It’s leaking in one spot where the electrical comes in at where the lights come in, so we definitely need one.”

Kay has three children, Faith, 6; Grace, 8; and Allen, 11.

She’s sought help from the Salvation Army through their Adopt a Stocking program.

“Honestly, they (her children) probably wouldn’t be able to get anything for Christmas if it wasn’t for the Salvation Army helping out,” Kay said.

They’re hoping they can get a Christmas tree and presents for the kids.

Faith could use some new clothes. She wears a size 7-8 in shirts and pants and wears a kid’s size 11 shoe. As for toys, she likes Laugh Out Loud toys, Paw Prints and arts and crafts.

Grace wears a size 14-16 in tops and bottoms and a kid’s size 1 in shoes. As for toys, she likes arts and crafts and would also appreciate a new comforter set for her bed.

Allen wears size 30 x 30 pants and a men’s medium shirt. He wears a men’s size 9 shoe. He would appreciate Nintendo games and UNO games.

If you can help, contact the Lima Salvation Army and make this family have a great Christmas.
